Talking about myself always feels a bit odd. Especially when you're from a place with winters so harsh, they make you ponder the meaning of life. I’m from Siberia, the electronic heart of Russia, where every other person knows how to solder from a young age and understands the ins and outs of a transistor.
I was always on fire for computer science competitions as a kid. All that coding and algorithm stuff—that was my jam. But what I was most proud of was this device I showcased at a school science fair—a simple gadget for texting between two computers. Back then, it seemed almost like magic.
Then came college, the radio engineering department. Many think it's dull, but when you get into how data travels through air, it's fascinating. I even started teaching at the same university I studied at, while working at a research institute focused on secure data transmission. Serious stuff.
But you know what really charges me up? Fishing and off-roading. That's where the freedom is! I remember sitting by a campfire on one such trip, realizing how dependent we all were on cell service, which, let’s face it, could be pretty spotty in Siberia.
That’s when the idea hit me. What if there was a network that could let people text where there are no satellites or towers? Something accessible to everyone. Like wearable devices. And it shouldn't cost a fortune.
At first, the idea seemed crazy, but the more I thought about it, the clearer it became. Thus, my startup was born. We're now in the early testing phase, and believe it or not, it works! Creating a network that can keep people connected wherever they are has become my life’s work.
And so, I ended up on the opposite side of the Earth, the antipode of Siberia—in Silicon Valley. So, if you ever find yourself in Siberia or the Nevada desert and your phone has no signal, no worries. Maybe our little, but bold network will be right there to help you stay connected.
